Having a Los Angeles Library Card will save you hundreds of dollars every year.
The Los Angeles Public Library and Orange County Public Library are not just a great resource for research and learning. But also offers real discounts, freebies, community resources and more to card holders.
My mother in law has been touting the benefits of the Library for years. But outside of books, research and borrowing, I really didn’t understand all the benefits. I do now.
The Library itself has many perks by offering free computer access, work & career support & tutorials, online classes and videos, consumer information and more.
I was surprised to learn that both the L. A. County and Orange County Library cards offers passes to get free vehicle day-use entry to over 200 participating state park units operated by State Parks. These parks include:
Antelope Valley Poppy Reserve, Leo Carillo State Park, Kenneth Hahn park. Malibu Creek, Saddlebutte Butte, Will Rogers Park, Point Magu and more.
You can watch free films and TV shows through Kanopy and Hoopla or borrow films & TV shows to watch at home.
At some locations you take free language classes, and get free tickets to local museums and attractions. Though AI can do it now, they even offer programs for free income tax preparation.
The Library cards also works with Discover & Go, where you can reserve passes to Southern California museums for FREE. Tickets through Discover & Go are released on the first of each month. So planning ahead is a must.
Museums participating included Academy of Motion Pictures, California Botanic Gardens, La Brea Tar Pits, Natural History Museum, Los Angeles Conservancy and the L.A. County Fire Museum.
Plus you can even borrow a Chrome book computer through Tech2Go complete with a Chromebook and an internet Hot Spot. There’s also the 25 watt USB solar chargers available for borrowing. Who knew!?
These are great for hiking, camping or power emergencies.
The benefits don’t end there either!
For those of us who trip over technology, they have their Cybernauts program with trained computer aides that offer technology assistance, computer support, and mobile device support.
Library Cards are free to residents of California. You must, however, have photo identification with your name and current address. Identification can be a California driver’s license or an ID card issued by the DMV.
With high gas, housing, insurance and food prices, getting access to the little things, for free, makes a difference.
Without a doubt, the benefits of a Library card are outstanding. Get one now!
