The Wow! Stores are a general merchandise discount outlets selling household, beauty, hardware, grocery, cleaning, office, sundry basic items, at up to 65% off average retail. It was the store’s name got my attention as I was driving down the street. Hoping to be wow’d, I had to stop and investigate!
The Wow! Stores are a combination of Big Lots & 99 Cent Only stores. As a general merchandise discount outlet, they carry a little bit of everything. I spotted product both overstock & liquidated brand product as well as unbranded “discount” items.
Here, you have to know what you’re looking at. Though I didn’t see anything “over priced”, I did see some average market pricing.
I got ”WOW’D” when I spotted some Sterilte hampers at $13.99 instead of the $26 they sell for at Walmart. A Sterilite tall black trash can is $14.98 instead of $31 at Target. Some Table King stainless steel sink strainers were $1.49 instead of $4.47 at Walmart. I bought mine at Lowes 2 years ago for $4. Some Kingman latex work gloves were $1.69 instead of $4.50-6. An Alliance, 1/2 lb bag of assorted rubber bands was $1.69. EBay had them at $8.99. Some Arm & Hammer men’s Air Foam insoles were $2.49. Target had them in different packaging, for $4.99. Relax exfoliating wash clothes were $1.69 instead of $4.49 and Prime Source angled brooms were $4.99. The retail ran $6-7. Yes, I did try it. Nice broom!
Knock offs and unbranded items make up 60-65% of the store. But sometimes “Branded” doesn’t matter. Often they are made at the same factory the branded merchandise is made.
Some un-branded bottle of 3% Hydrogen Peroxide was $1.99, which was market value.
But.. a 6oz tub of Nu Value petroleum jelly was $1.69. Retail is $9.95. Some un branded Natural Pop Corn (3 bag box) was $2.49. Average market was $3.89-5.59 for all brands. An unbranded 12-piece artist brush kit was $1.99. Average market retail was $6.50. LM Cuticle nail clippers were $3.99. Lowest price I could find on the internet for any clippers was $6. A bag of cotton balls was $1.49. I haven’t seen $1.49 for cotton balls in a couple of years!
I wasn’t ignored here either. As I wandered about, the friendly staff checked in on me several times. But alas, my Spanish, unfortunately, is very limited.
I was able to connect with the son, Edwardo who was eager to answer my questions.
This clean and organized family run store is a great neighborhood “pop in” to shop for general merchandise.
The Wow! Stores are a perfect neighborhood “go to” to save money on those basic everyday purchases.
