A Risky Purchase

After running around town doing errands last weekend, we happened upon an Estate Sale late Saturday afternoon. I was exhausted, irritable and hungry from running around all day.  But the home was a 1920’s, 2-story Spanish, my favorite and I really wanted to see the interior.

A New Grill

Back in 2008, I uncovered a liquidator who had a ton of Australian made patio furniture, BBQ s and complete outdoor islands at 40-80% off original retail. The pricing was unbelievable. We walked away with a Signature S3000E Beef Eater (4 burner) grill. The MSRP was $1899. Here it was only $397. Already assembled we threw in the back of the SUV and gleefully headed home.

For 10 years Hubby grilled every weekend, even during the winter.

New Home Project

The New Year always has me busy with both business and household projects. After getting my home and office re-organized for the new year, I’m once again reminded of the projects I need to start.

First home project, recovering the dining room chairs. Those poor upholstered seats took a beating during the Holidays. Wine spills, Gravy spills, the Cranberries, OY!

Holiday Decorating

I love Holiday decorating and entertaining. But, do to the heavy workload Fall brings, rarely get it all done or get to enjoy it. Feeling a bit deprived last year,  I made a plan to get ahead of the Holidays and keep the expense down.

Car Shopping

Our beloved Subaru Forester got totaled couple weeks ago. In the pre-dawn hours someone hit our parked car, pushing it 40 feet into our neighbors front yard, then fled the scene. Police were called along with a tow truck.  Our Foresters Transmission was shredded, frame bent and the 4-wheel drive train was shot. Thank God for insurance. Once again we have to take time out to hunt for car.

Fun With Hubby

I normally shop and do store research alone.  It’s faster, more efficient and I can stay better focused. But, lately I’ve been taking my husband with me when I research. Web dude is a really funny guy.

Heck of a Deal

We needed a floor lamp for our living room. We actually have needed one for 7 years. But I’m picky. I wanted a wrought iron, Spanish styled floor lamp to go with our 1927 Mediterranean home.  I have found a few over the years but they were too ornate and I didn’t want to pay what they were asking.

While I was cruising the EBTH.com, I found one that looked perfect.

Scams, Lies and Dirty Tricks

Researching discounters has its ups and downs. This last week though I had more than the usual frustrations with so called “discount” retailers.

One store had huge banner ads on the outside of their building claiming 50% off retail on Closeout Furniture. Further investigation proved that it was a scam.

1980’s Technology Throwback

When I was little, my mom had an expensive heating pad that was in a word… AWESOME! She used it daily. It was worn, stained and faded, but keep working great. After she passed, I kept it and used it till last summer when it’s early 1980’s technology finally broke down. It lasted over 30 years. Seriously!

The Thrifty Opportunist

Any good bargain shopper will pop into Thrift stores, Yard & Estate Sales and Flea Markets and the occasional dumpster dive. Not because “used” is always a bargain, it isn’t. But because sometimes you’ll find opportunistic steals.

Some of my best deals ever came from Thrifts.
