Friends Who Pay Full Retail

I am often perplexed by people who ONLY pay retail, ONLY buy at Boutiques and Department Stores.

Believe it or not, I have had several friends who only pay retail. They live in the best neighborhoods and eat at the trendiest restaurants. These guys only buy brand new, latest and trendiest at top dollar.

A New Grill

Back in 2008, I uncovered a liquidator who had a ton of Australian made patio furniture, BBQ s and complete outdoor islands at 40-80% off original retail. The pricing was unbelievable. We walked away with a Signature S3000E Beef Eater (4 burner) grill. The MSRP was $1899. Here it was only $397. Already assembled we threw in the back of the SUV and gleefully headed home.

For 10 years Hubby grilled every weekend, even during the winter.

A Needed Break

Everyone needs a break. We really needed one, more than usual and so we took a few days last week, drove up and hit the hiking trails in Yosemite.

Having been to Yosemite well over a dozen times, we thought we’d seen everything. But this year, because of the massive snowfall this last Winter, there were more waterfalls than I had ever seen. We didn’t know half their names and I stopped counting at 22.

Black Friday Humbug

Ok… OK! Enough of Black Friday already!

No, I do not hit the malls or retail stores on Black Friday. I like to spend my Holiday weekend with family. It’s a rare rest period during an extremely hectic season for us.
However…

Shopping in Downtown LA

My girl friend, Kim asked me to take her shopping in Downtown LA.  Since she loves Splendid and Ella Moss and had missed their Warehouse Sale,  I took her to the Ella Moss Splendid Outlet.

Our Tight Budget Summer

This Summer we have some expected …and unexpected household maintenance and repair expenses. In order to afford these repairs without using credit or digging into savings, we have implemented some cost savings measures into every aspect of our lives.

Managing Temptation

I’m not sure how long this is gonna last, but we are taking the extra sugar out of our diet.

This came about because we saw our teen daughter eating way too many carbs. Too much sugar, too much bread, too much pasta, candy & ice cream.

Beware of the Deal

Like many of you I have signed up for every “deal” website there is. Groupon, Living Social, Amazon Local and others. Many of them have merged, some have changed their names or quietly disappeared.

I have bought some great buys through deal sites. But that said…..

Bad Service

Back in the day I worked as a Waitress/ Hostess at a really nice Beverly Hills restaurant. I wasn’t very good at it. As a matter a fact I was terrible. Really terrible….but the manger kept me on because I was so friendly, sweet and honest about mistakes that I made. Somehow customers take stupidity from servers as long as they’re treated nicely and the server apologizes for their fumblings. I was good at that.

So we have patience when we dine out. … to a point.
