The ski season
is upon us! Winter white snow is abundant in the mountains. It’s now
time to get on your skis, snowboards and head up to those mountains
for some old-fashioned winter fun! Unfortunately sometimes that Winter
escape can cost ya major bucks. Apparel and gear outfitting, lift
tickets, lodging and so on.
Well, at least the gear and apparel outfitting won’t kill the
budget. There are two major sources for quality discount ski and
snowboard gear and apparel right here in Southern California. Both
with discounts at 40%-70% off original retail.
Though they’re well known for their deals on women’s swimwear, H
& H Jobbing in
Redondo Beach has outstanding deals on snow and outdoor apparel for
men and women along side of their swimwear. But they also have
snowboards, boots and related gear too at about half of what original
retail would have been.
You’ll see those top quality brands with names like Burton, Drake,
North Wave, Helix, Ripcurl, Precision, DUB, Helix, Ten 80 and Wave
Rave. Owner, Craig Eisenberg can offer these savings in snowboards and
snow apparel by snapping up in season overruns and last season’s
merchandise and passing the savings on to the public. The fun part is
that neither the styles nor the technology in snowboard gear changes
quickly, so last year’s styles are only different usually in colors
and patterns offered.
I spotted a custom molded North Wave Snowboard boot at
$79. Usually these run upwards of $270. Step in boots and
bindings may run up upwards of $450, here they’re a better price of
$149. A multi-weather, men’s jacket by Wave Rave was a steal at only
$39. Original retail is $300. An Avalanche snowboard from last season
was $199 instead of $60. The kids aren’t left out here either …
a basic bib is $29 and a kid’s waterproof jacket by Burton
was $69.95…instead of the regular retail of $149.
They have both high-end designer and middle range user friendly
goods here. A great source for snowboard enthusiasts.

The other great source is Ski and Snowboard Liquidation Center in San
Gabriel. In their large showroom you can find outdoor snow apparel for
men, women and children along with great buys on both new and used
ski’s, snowboards and accessories. Savings range from 30%-80% with
some of the best buys in the used skis packages.
Like H & H, Ski & Snowboard liquidations buys manufacturers
in-season overruns and last seasons remainders. Good brands here too.
Salomon, Head, Nordica, Coulor, Marmot, Metropolis, Rossignol, Palmer
Snow boards and more.
I immediately spotted a very good buy on a rather stylish hip jacket
by Metropolis. This in season women’s jacket was originally priced
at $289. One local sporting goods store had it at on sale $150 but
here it’s $99. A cool jumpsuit for girls by Coulor was $79 instead
of $250, a boys Sportcaster set of a bib and jacket was a great buy at
$39. Expect to pay $90 or more for this quality. Some new Dynastar
skis are only $99. Even though these skis are new with a newer
parabolic shape, they are 3 seasons old. Original retail is $725, an
80% savings. Some kids ski’s by Blizzard are very affordable at $79
instead of $170.
But the best deal for those of us who need everything and only ski
occasionally is the Used Ski Package, You get polls, ski’s binding
and boots for $99. Normally
a rental of the same gear (no more than 3 year old) would run you $25
a day. You get to own it for less than a weeks rental. Very cool.
