The American Cancer Society’s Discovery Shops are a bargain hunters dream. High-quality gently used, donated merchandise abounds in designer apparel, home furnishings and décor at 40%-70% below original retail

The Discovery Shops concept of selling better resale apparel and home furnishings as a fundraiser for cancer research, education and advocacy has struck a cord with the millions of smart consumers. But it’s the superior bargains that keep these customers coming back again and again.

Quality home furnishings can be found at surprising prices. A very large antique French walnut dresser with 8 drawers, 2 cabinets, attached mirror and marble top would retail at a dealer for $1800- $2200 but it’s here for $1175. A near perfect king sized sleigh bed disappeared fast at $495. If you’re into 1970’s retro try the yellow and gold glass coffee and end table set at $325. On La Brea Ave. this could sell for double.

Well-dressed ladies of leisure, working women and hip fashion diva’s all shop here. A killer ¾ coat by Tahari retailed for $290, but was here in mint condition at $39. A classic, black label Armani jacket was $65. Good designers labels here… DKNY, Rena Rowan, Bebe, Banana Republic, Emanuel Ungaro, Chanel, Calvin Klein, Abercombe & Fitch as well as a few lesser labels like Forever 21, Gap, Cherokee and Moreno.  Most pieces were 1-3 years old and in mint or near mint condition. Plenty of apparel to look through too… dresses, suits, coats, blouses, trousers, eveningwear, loungewear, shoes and accessories.

Men have a good selection of stylish quality clothes to browse through with deals on suits, coats, jackets, trousers, ties and shoes from LL Bean, Gap, Perry Ellis, Metropolitan, Brooks Brothers, Lucky Jeans and Nordstroms private label. Trousers run $10-$15.  An Italian suit was marked $40 and a Saks Fifth Ave suit was a steal at $125. 

With new donations coming in regularly, the Discovery Shops are a “pop in often” and “pounce on the deal” store. Join the fun, help a good cause and bag a bargain.
